Around 5 years ago, I brought home two female kitten sisters and named them “Sanura and Sagura”. Sagura is Egyptian for “little one” and Sanura is Egyptian for “kitten”. A couple of weeks after being brought home, Sagura slipped outside and got lost. I’ve never seen her again.
About that time, though, Silkie came to live with us and she and Sanura became close friends. However, a year later when I brought home some foster kittens, Sanura was so angry, that she went to live in the woods for six months. She broke the ties to the other cats in the house, including with Silkie and would only sneak in at night to eat.
After some promises of special treatment, I was able to entice Sanura back to live in the house, but she remains aloof from the other cats. As a result, there is mutual hate between her and the other furry members of the house.
Any time she is “out” amongst the other cats, they follow her, watch her and sometimes stalk her. However, she often “asks” for it, and if they didn’t notice her run through the room the first time, she’ll keep it up until they do! Although she hates them, she hates it more if they ignore her. After all, if they ignore her, they can’t see that she is being snooty to them!… she’s weird!
Sanura has the cutest little “shovel face”. He nose dips so sweetly. I love kissing it. Currently her royal highness has set up her kingdom in my walk-in closet off the bathroom. She loves to sleep on the highest shelf where I keep my pillows. After all, she reasons, a Princess should only sleep on goose down!
Snaura’s nicknames are: Beauty, Sanura Pagura, Fancy Face and Shovel Head. Lol Physically, Sanura is small, with tiny, petite feet. She looks like she is less than a year old. She has beautiful markings and has a “looped ribbon” marking on her right hip. She was born to be a Princess!

About 5 years ago, I heard a strange “meow” coming from my front porch. I opened the door and there was a kitten, about 4-5 months old, mewing at my door. “Well, hello, there! Who are you?” She didn’t answer, just prissed herself into the house as if she lived there! The other cats ran up to her hissing and acting out, but she wasn’t scared and stood her ground—she even made “nice” with them.
Silkie is my “good girl”. She is a “low rider” with short legs, and because she is chubby, she’s shaped like a bullet. Her nicknames are: Silka da Worm, Chunky Monkey, Chunky Butt, and Wormly. (The worm thing comes from “Silk worm”, not because she’s wormy.)
She is almost the perfect cat. I named her Silkie because her fur felt like silk. Silkie became great friends with Sanura (pre-diva days lol) and Bastet and got along with the rough housing boys as best she could. Now, however, she and Sanura barely abide each other because Sanura has such a snooty attitude. Silkie is a very tactile kitty and loves to be touched, rubbed and stroked. She will throw herself down right in front of me so that I will rub her back and belly. However, she is also very sensitive, so sometimes it is hard for her to “stand” having her belly rubbed—even though she asks for it, but her favorite way to sleep is to lay on my palm, with me squeezing her belly. Cats can be so weird!
Silkie is happy alone, with other cats, or with her human—she takes almost everything in stride. She likes attention, but is okay having to wait her turn for it. She loves being brushed and spending time with Bastet. She likes the outside and inside about the same. She doesn’t mind kisses, but doesn’t seek them out. She is about as perfect as a kitty can be.
She also is the first female cat I’ve ever seen that sprays. She backs up to what she wants to spray, pumps her little back feet, shimmies that tail and lets it fly! However, she never sprays in the house.
She has a very sweet voice, but seldom says a word. She’s a good, sweet girl and I am so happy I opened my door to her that summer day so long ago.
Congratulations, Sanura and Silkie!
