Butterfly Wrote about Kiwi:

Kiwi was our little Easter miracle. Kiwi came to us on Easter Monday after a long, sad day for us - we had just been informed that morning that the original kitten we'd picked out had died due to the owner's complete stupidity and negligence.

After contacting many different shelters that afternoon with no success, we had given up hope - until we went out for supper that night and noticed an ad up in our local pet store about kittens for adoption. I took a number and as soon as we got home, called the number. A woman answered and said she had one little calico kitten left, so we decided to go see it. Turns out the woman lived litereally 5-6 houses down he road from us. We got there, and the lady went to get her - and when she brought her out, we fell instantly in love. The lady warned us that she was very scared and nervous around people - but little itty-bitty Kiwi walked right up to us and rubbed against our legs. It was then and there that we knew she was the one for us. We brought her home that very night and after getting home, Craig and I looked at each other and said at the same time: "Kiwi". She was a teeny-tiny little ball of brown fur - much like a kiwi-fruit, so that's how she got her name.

Kiwi's been a great little cat since then. She's about nine months old now - and is a little ball of energy. She's a total lovebug and snuggle-monster. We had some ups and downs at first with her, but I really couldn't have asked for a better cat. She's my little baby and my joy - I don't know what I'd do without her now. She sleeps with me under the covers right by my neck everynight and is always by my side or on my lap giving me head bonks for love and attention. I love my sweet little girl!

Congratulations Kiwi!!!

Jazzy came to us about 3-4 months after we got Kiwi. We had started to notice that Kiwi was getting a bit lonely and was developing a few bad habits out of her loneliness. After talking it over, we decided to adopt another cat from a shelter so Kiwi could have a friend to play with while we were away.

At first we had scoured petfinder for black cats to adopt, because we had heard they were often very hard to adopt out, and had found 3 different black kitties at one shelter I liked. I sent the shelter and e-mail about these three, and after talking back and fourth a few times the owner of the shelter sent me a link reccomending a small 6- month old tortie named 'Maybelle' they'd had for a few months that she though would be perfect for us. Craig and I talked it over and soon decided she was the one we wanted.

Once we'd made our decision, we were told her story. Apparantly the owner found Jazz at a local high-kill shelter and saved her the day she was to be euthanized. After taking her, the staff there said Jazz had been found outside in the freezing cold, very skinny and obviously dumped. Because it was so cold, they noted she had gotten frost-bite in her left ear, and the tip was kind-of whizzled and bent back. Nevertheless, she was taken to the other shelter and put in a foster home to await her 'forever home'. She was in her foster home for almost 4 months before we came along to save her.

Beth (the shelter owner) brought her to us mid-June and after a few days of bickering with Kiwi, they became the best friends. Even today they can often be found in each other's company, curled up asleep together, or grooming each other.

Jazzy has really been a blessing in disguise for us. Since she came into our lives, Kiwi has changed drastically, and Jazzy has just been a little angel. She's a purr-machine, and will purr like crazy if you just look at her. She loves to be picked up and cradled like a baby and her favourite pastime is sleeping in the sun on the couch and wrestling with Kiwi. She's a very loveable cat and is very quiet and has such a wonderful temperment. I'm so very glad she came into our lives - she has truly shown us the meaning of love and overcoming your bad times. She's been a real inspiration to us - wrinkled ear and all!

Congratulations Jasmine!!!
