Its kind of a long and sad story how I got Simbah. A friend who is a vet called me up and said she had a feral kitten who was to be euthanased but I told her to always call me if she had ferals so fortunately she did.

What happened was a family had gotten him from a so called breeder. This breeder was really really dodgy and had all these beautiful cats running wild outdoors and in cages. They weren't tame and were all sick and breeding all over the place. Anyway when this family adopted him and got him home he was terrified and shaking and hissing and for days he just hid behind their washing machine (the stupids actually used the machine while he was stuck behind it). He would not eat and was just peeing all over himself. He then squeezed through a small hole in their wall and got stuck under their house. Finally they organised a cat trap and he must have gotten hungry enough because he went in and was caught.

The "breeder" would not take him back so they took him to my friend at the vet to be put to sleep But luckily she called me!

Well when I got him he was absolutely terrified, I have never seen such a scared cat in my life, it was heartbreaking. Apparently this breeder used to keep his kittens in small bird cages But despite that he was within hours the most loving cat I had ever met. Totally starved of attention, you just had to touch him and he purred. He was so wary though and hid most of the day for a few months in his new house but would always stick his head out to give a headbutt and smooch and then retreat! I had to feed him in there and he wouldn't even come out for the toilet so that was hard. He was really sick and underweight and had never been weaned properly plus he has stomatitis, worms, fleas you name it poor sweetie.

Simbah was hard work and it took a full few months to have him gain our trust fully but once he did I couldn't ask for a better cat. I actually planned to rehome once he was tame, I even drove him out to his new home and was was so close to leaving him, but he reverted back to being so terrified and the look he gave me as I was leaving broke my heart in two. I never wanted to give him up, but he was cat number 7 so it was getting a little crazy at my house and I felt he would do better in a smaller cat family. But my instinct said to take him back. I felt so bad for the people who wanted him, but I couldn't do it. I cried and apologised and they were ok about it. So he came back home again and I am SO glad he did. I just cannot imagine my life without him and with his mouth problem I dont know how he would have made it.

So anyway, that "breeder" has since been closed down and sadly a lot of the cats he had were to feral or sick to be rehomed I'm just so glad I got a chance to save one and Simbah is the most wonderful loving cat, I wish the other cats had been given a chance. If they were anything like Simbah eventually they would have come around and made the most wonderful pets. I am so lucky to have him, I really feel like he was meant to be.

And you know just like all the supermodels say they were ugly and gangly as kids.........well Simbah was that way too. He was not a very cute kitten believe it or not. He really didnt blossom until about 6-7 months old. He was skinny and scruffy and he didnt have a nose, just these funny nostrils and abnormally long whiskers and big paws that looked wrong on his gangly body.

But then one day THAT tail appeared and he grew into himself and the last thing to come was all that fur and mane. Also when he was young his eyes used to be really dark brown and kind of drab looking, but then they turned copper............and VOILA supermodel kitty!!

Of course i loved him no matter what he looks like, but he is very beautiful if I may say so myself!! He is actually pretty modest, I dont think he realises how cute he is, but thats a good thing..........can't have those looks going to his head!!

Congratulations Simbah!!!
