Sesi is one of the kittens from a litter I raised. He's the only one of the litter I kept, the others have homes far and wide, some here in Canada, others in the United States.
Yesterday, Sesi was diagnosed with a type of hip dysplasia called physeal dysplasia/ slipped capital physis. It is a bone degenerating illness and over time, the area of the leg bone that goes into the hip socket will lead to capital fractures, bone erosion, and after time, the entire leg bone will essentially be "free floating" (i.e not attached to the hip at all).
According to my own vet, the orthopedic surgeon & a sheet my vet gave me from Dr. Susan Little, it is unknown whether this ailment is genetic or not. Both my vet & the orthopedic surgeon were baffled, as cats that are normally predisposed to this are neutered/spayed cats that were altered at a young age, tend to be overweight, and the highest incidents occur in cats less than 1-2 years of age. Sesi is not currently neutered, he is 10 months of age, and is far from overweight. His weight is approx. 8 lbs.
This ailment is not life threatening, however, he must now be on pain medication for the rest of his life. My vet has warned me that the medication will affect mostly his kidneys and also his liver.
Please keep Sesi in your prayers. Thank you.
Congratulations Sesi!!!
