Kalebsmom Wrote About Isabel:

A coworker of mine has done "unoffical" cat rescues for a long, long time. She was caring for two litters of kittens, and their malnurished mamas, when she discovered another abandoned cat, clearly very pregnant, on her mail route. I heard her talking about this cat and her circumstances, and I offered to go pick it up for her. But after luring the mama-to-be to me, I realized I had no cat carrier with me!

Hoping for the best, I put the pregnant feline into my car and began the long drive to my coworker's home, only to discover the cat had become a ricocheting ball of fluff in my car, bouncing off windows while screeching at the top of her lungs! Unable to make the trip to my coworker's home with a clearly suicidal cat in the car, I stopped at my house to get a carrier. Somehow, we ended up with the cat, a "Halloween" tortie/calico, in our basement bedroom, instead.

Over the next few days we removed furniture from the bedroom, added birthing boxes, and managed to take the cat, named Isabel by people in the neighborhood where she had been living, to the vet, who announced at least four kittens, and immenant birth. He had no idea how right he was!

The night after we took Isabel to the vet, she gave birth to five kittens. I took pictures of most of the births, and posted them at Kitty Haven. Everyone got to watch the kittens grow up, and find new homes. We kept Isabel for another year, before rehoming her, as well.

Isabel started out as a scared, hungry, abandoned kitty, a perfect "poster cat" for what happens when people are not responsible pet owners. In part due to my experiences with Isabel, and in part due to my association with the wonderful people I met through Kitty Haven, I have continued to try and help as many kitties as possible.

Congratulations Isabel!!!
